Sunken Diamond: Stanford University

For as many MLB and MiLB games as I’ve been to over the years, I have been to remarkably few college baseball games. In fact, I think I’ve been to zero. Weird, right? On Monday I went to my first, a barnburner of a College World Series game between Texas and the Cardinal. It was a little back-and-forth throughout, with Stanford jumping out to three-run leads twice and the Longhorns tying the game both times. Ultimately, as you may have seen, Stanford won on a walk-off fly ball that the Texas outfielders lost in the darkness. Stanford is moving on!

The field is quite nice (although they may need new lights, based on this evening’s finish!). Lots to see, passionate fans, good sightlines. My friend Dave and I sat on the berm down the third base line, with a whole bunch of Longhorn fans. I wandered a bit, as usual, and got to see our friends Steve and Valerie too (the place isn’t all that large).
