Major League Ballparks

I’ve been to 25 of the current 30 Major League ballparks, and 21 since I’ve started this website. The only defunct stadiums I have visited since I’ve been blogging are Globe Life Park in Texas and, sadly, the Oakland Coliseum, though I have also seen games at Tiger Stadium, old Yankee Stadium, and the Metrodome. The only ballpark left that I visited in my younger days but have not yet blogged about is Progressive Field in Cleveland. Four others (at least!) have changed names since I’ve visited: Miller Park in Milwaukee is now American Family Field, AT&T Park in San Francisco is now Oracle Park, Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago is now Rate Field, and Safeco Field in Seattle is now T-Mobile Park.

The five current MLB stadiums that I have yet to visit are Marlins Park in Miami, Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Rogers Centre in Toronto, Target Field in Minneapolis, and Globe Life Field in Arlington. I’m still not really sure what to do with Tampa Bay and Sacramento.

The rankings below are based on the 27 ballparks that I have seen AND were active as of 2019. This is all unscientific and incredibly personal, of course, but the criteria I generally use when I visit includes the following:

  1. Beauty of the ballpark
  2. Views provided
  3. Fan passion & creativity
  4. Fan & ballpark employee friendliness
  5. Transportation options and convenience
  6. Food & drink quality and variety
  7. Affordability
  8. Amenities & quirks
  9. History & “magic”
  10. What I call “strollability”: the opportunity to freely explore the entire ballpark

Here’s how I have them ranked now. I do rethink this from time to time, especially if I visit a ballpark again. Yes, I know the Coliseum is ranked higher here than it would be by just about any other person on the planet. But I stand by it. 🙂
